  4. Romaniv, Kamula Mountain, Bibrka (bussed to the starting point)
  5. Sykhiv, Vulky, Chortovi Skeli, Vynnykivske Lake and Medova Pechera

There is some incredible terrain right on the outskirts of Lviv: awesome forests, lakes and rock caves that are little known even among Leopolitans:

Kamula Mountain (471 meters above sea level) is the highest peak in the Podolian Uplands. It is located near the village of Romaniv. Outcrops rise 20-30 meters above the surrounding area. This Mountain is covered with a beautiful beech forest. There are many cliffs nearby.

Krekhiv Monastery is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites. Most pilgrims come on 22 May; the day St. Nicholas’s relics were moved. The monastery is famous for several wonderworking icons. Tourists particularly flock to the healing spring located in the picturesque valley. There are many cliffs and caves around the monastery.

Stradch during Kyivan Rus’ and the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia the second underground monastery, after the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was located not far from this village. It is on a high hill on the left bank of the Bereshchytsi River. In the Galician-Volhynian Chronicle of 1242 the monastery is referred to as the Pechera Domozhyrova.

The Yavoriv Rifle Range in the middle of this expansive rifle range are the ruins of an old church. The standing walls are pock marked from target practice. St. Michael’s church was the target tanks aimed at during training. Before its deliberate destruction this large church served Velyka Vyshenka. In 1940, when the military rifle range was being built a total of 20 churches were destroyed in this area; 125,000 villagers were deported and 170 villages were annihilated. The landscape is reminiscent of a ghost town in an old Western.

Mykolayiv Slavic religious shrines on Chorna Mountain, in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, are mentioned in the Dzherela Skhodu IX-X Century. The cave complexes on the northern side of Mykolayiv are similar to those described. Ongoing research shows that these cliff facilities were used in pre-Christian times and later, after the acceptance of Christianity, were used by wandering monks.

Stilske the largest ancient Slavic site of its kind. It occupies more than 250 hectares. Archeologists believe that over 1000 years ago the ancient Slavic group of White Croatians had their capital city, Skelnyy Mist, on this site.

Pryyma is the site of the oldest hunting camp found in a cave under continental Ukraine. In 2004 they found Neanderthal bones in these caves. This was the second such find in Ukraine. The fanciful rock formations create a small canyon.
